Quality assurance (QA) is the management of the overall processes that make the best possible products. QA is responsible for evaluation of procedures, training, validation, and other functions that go into preparing a blood product for transfusion. QA staff members perform audits, participate in planning of new processes and equipment purchases, and monitor quality measures to ensure that processes are in control in a blood bank. QA is often confused with quality control and quality management.
