Blood Assurance Program
A system that allows blood donors and the groups with which they are associated to receive discounts, refunds, or waived fees if they ever need to receive blood. These are also sometimes called “Blood Credit Programs.” These are far less prevalent than they were in the past. They are difficult to manage logistically, and with people donating in one place but getting transfused in another, they can be nearly impossible to administer. The vast majority of blood donations in the US now do NOT result in a promise of decreased cost for a possible future transfusion.
