Transfusion Reactions

Transfusion in the 21st century is pretty safe, to be honest. Most of the infectious risks have been greatly minimized, but we still have to worry about noninfectious things that can cause us trouble.

Transfusion reactions can take many shapes, sizes, and forms. This section will deal with how to recognize transfusion reactions clinically, how to work them up in the laboratory, and how best to treat and prevent them. We will deal first with the general aspects of recognizing and working up possible reactions, then hone in on significant aspects of specific transfusion reactions.
